NiRNOY a specialized home of counseling, training and research is aimed at promoting the concept and use of counseling and relevant services in the country. It started its journey with providing counseling services to various interest groups such as victims/ survivors of violence (domestic, acid & workplace) and at risk of violence and abuse, substance abuser, adolescents, children who are victims of trafficking, molestation, abuse and witnessed various forms of violence in their life time, female garment workers, single parents and housewives.
Its professional expertise includes providing counseling services by developing Tailor-made counseling packages on need based issues, training packages on institutional, capacity and/or skills building, Gender Policy, Sexual and Reproductive Health issues, Women Workers’ Rights and Gender perspectives, executing programs and projects, conducting studies, surveys and organizing training and counseling courses. Areas of attention are health, gender, institutional and capacity building, enterprise and entrepreneurship development, governance and access to justice.
NIRNOY also provides training on counseling to various professional and interest groups (such as health professionals, Para-medics, NGO officials, school & college teachers, graduates with psychology & social science background, individual with special need/interest), to build up a trained resource pool in counseling as well as benefit on a personal level as per their need.
NIRNOY has carried outnumber of research activities particularly focusing on gender and developed training programs on the Reproductive Health Initiative (RHI) for the adolescents in four districts in Bangladesh. It carried out gender audits for several organizations like UNFPA, IC/SDC and other international development agency supported grassroots NGOs.
NiRNOY is staffed by some dedicated and qualified professionals working under the guidance of a four member Panel of Advisors. Mission Statement:
NiRNOY works with people who have experienced mental illness, psycho-social crisis, challenges, and/or psychiatric disorders, their families and other members of our diverse community to:
- Develop and provide personalized support services that help them improve their quality of life in accordance with their defined needs.
- Provide information and education to increase knowledge and understanding of mental health and illness and services that promote mental health.
- Provide information and education to increase knowledge and understanding of personal limitations, weaknesses, abilities, and strength to better able to function at the workplace and at the outer world.
- Advocate for public policies to improve quality of life for people with mental, psycho-social challenges and psychiatric disorders, their families and our community.
